Bio
J. Bochynski is a contemporary artist whose primary subject is the visual and material culture of the common spaces in America. Born into the common background of a middle class suburban family, outside Buffalo, New York, Bochynski is drawn to the built environment as a common experience for many Americans, as well as a complex, personal symbol. Bochynski attending Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York and earned a B.A. in studio art as well as mathematics with honors. The simultaneous coursework in these areas contributes a diverse studio practice and an analytical perspective of the built environment. Since graduation in 2008, Bochynski has lived in Buffalo, Boston, MA and now Providence, RI. Currently, j. bochynski is a MFA candidate in the painting program at Rhode Island School of Design, scheduled to graduate in 2013.
